Your book is written, your cover is complete. Now it’s time to format the most important part—your words and ideas, also known as book formatting. Most people don’t realize that the interior layout of the book has a major impact on how you consume the material of the book you are reading.
From font size, chapter headings, table of contents, photographs, indexing…there’s a lot that can go into stylizing the contents of your book.
You will work with an interior book designer who will customize and format your book for your book’s genre and ensure it reads well, and is compatible with the publishing platform we use.
How Book Formatting Works
First we start off with a Zoom call with your chosen design so they can get to you know you and your manuscript. And, you can get to know them too! This call takes about 15-30 minutes and is scheduled at your convenience.
Your designer will create 2-3 interior design options using one to two chapters of your manuscript. In the options they will create three different treatments for the typefaces, header, footer, subhead and other design considerations.
We schedule a Zoom call to go over the designs. You will decide typefaces, headers, footers and other elements you were presented in the interior design options. This is many times an interactive process where you can see options on in real time.
Your designer will complete the interior layout and present it to you for final proofing. At this step you are making small changes to the content, if any, and proofing for any design/layout mistakes.
The designer will make the changes you submitted and provide you with a final, print-ready interior file.
At this point, we can upload your files to your publishing platform of choice and get you a tangible proof copy of your book to see it in real-time!
